DVI, a provider of digital dictation systems, recognizes
the significant challenge that HIPAA regulations present to the healthcare
industry and to our customers. DVI is committed to helping our users achieve
HIPAA compliance within the timelines established by the regulations. To this
end, we have created a governing framework to define and manage our HIPAA
initiatives, retained a major national consulting firm to help us navigate the
regulatory requirements of HIPAA, and launched several initiatives to address HIPAA.
DVI’s parent corporation, MedQuist, has established an oversight
committee comprised of senior management representatives to monitor the effectiveness,
status, and timing of all internal business activities and investments as they relate to
HIPAA. MedQuist has also hired a Director of Information Security and HIPAA Compliance
to facilitate and manage the information security and HIPAA needs of our customers. The
Director will develop and maintain effective educational programs for training internal
and external clients on the requirements of HIPAA.
DVI is undertaking this effort and expending substantial sums in order
to be responsive and knowledgeable regarding HIPAA regulations and their impact on our
customers. DVI understands that some of the HIPAA regulations have not yet been finalized,
and are subject to change. Going forward, DVI’s guiding principle is to make every reasonable
effort to be knowledgeable and responsive regarding HIPAA regulations, and to act as a business
associate in all client activities geared toward achieving HIPAA compliance within the mandated
timeframes. We are currently conducting an intensive analysis of our software’s functionality,
in order to determine what additional features should be developed and offered to provide
optimal support for HIPAA compliance.
DVI, located in Joplin, Missouri, is
a wholly owned subsidiary of MedQuist, a publicly traded company
focusing on the medical transcription industry [NASDAQ: MEDQ].
